What is Scarce?

I saw a great blog today and I’d have linked to it but for the fact that the authors put large obnoxious tags on all their images. On a photo blog! Too bad.

I guess that’s what happens when we hear too many stories about how hard it is for the recording industry to survive in the face of online piracy…

It’s easy to forget about abundance. It’s a little sad when people assume scarcity and allow that assumption to govern how they distribute their work.

Of course this is a complex issue and I don’t suggest that everyone should just give their work away. I do suggest that we all carefully consider the things that we assume to be scarce.

I propose that small format (less then 800 px by 600 px) web resolution (72 dpi) images are not scarce.

Words and ideas aren’t scarce either.
