chicken with fries in a basket

July 26th, 2008  |  Published in News

In the past month I’ve had chicken with fries at three different places. In the past 10 years I’ve had chicken with fries at three different places. They are (in order of historic relevance):

1.) Thee Parkside

2.) Oakland Coliseum

3.) Corporate nom du jour park where the SF Giants play

Oakland was better than SF. Thee Parkside was technically better than Oakland, with one exception, the variety of mustards, ketchup, and barbecue sauce at Oakland was the best. Parkside wins on taste, presentation, and of course price.

Regarding mustard; there’s nothing wrong with yellow mustard on chicken. Honey mustard sauce is a superior alternative. If you have the choice, choose the honey mustard. No disrespect to yellow mustard. We’ve been together and we’ll be together. And maybe this preference for honey mustard on chicken only holds for those of us who grew up in the golden age of chicken nuggets.

Regarding the show; it was good. Hanging out with the folks from Arcadio was great. The Provisionals and Arcadio played well. My performance went as well as I expected it to. Some parts worked. Had fun.

Macro-Virus-Executable Update: someone at my show last night mentioned having read this website. That was nice. Several people asked about the upcoming Delivery is Possible release titled “Macro-Virus-Executable”. That was also nice.

The deal with the record is that recording and mixing are done. There are at least 22 tracks that could make the final cut. I’ve been in contact with a few different mastering engineers and I’ll probably contact one or two more before making a decision.

Initially my plan was to release macro-virus-executable as a triple LP debut. I stand by the integrity of that plan. I’ve used a lot of analog gear in the recording and mixing and the intention has always been to release it on vinyl. The name refers to the three LP’s. Triple LP is obviously the right choice from an artistic perspective.

Triple LP is a challenge from a financial perspective. The only way I can figure to realize the triple LP vision is to start collecting pre-orders.

I’ll need a lot of them and I’ve been hesitant to even put the idea out there. Consider it out there. If it works, great. If not, what the hell, yellow mustard isn’t bad…

In the coming weeks I’ll set up an online store to manage orders. I’ll also set up one of those pledge drive style thermometers that will give constant updates on how close we are to the goal. I haven’t learned much about the record business – but trust me when I say – nothing moves units like a LIVE ACTION! data-driven thermometer graphic.

Show – Friday 7-25-08 at Thee Parkside, SF

Delivery is Possible sweet green tea with mint

Thee Parkside is a bar; they call it a “premier dive bar”. It has a nice patio.

I’m performing there next Friday. There are two other bands on the bill; The Provisionals and Arcadio. Both bands are great. The Provisionals play first, followed by Arcadio, followed by me.

I’m in the mood for a singery-songwritery set so that’s what I’ll do. Why not?

Meanwhile I’m working slowly on wrapping up the new Delivery is Possible record and producing an as yet unnamed record of beat driven hip hop/electronica. Spent part of the day remixing a Martin Brothers song for the Dirty Bird Remix contest. Maybe I’ll post that one here when it’s done.

Tomorrow night we can all take a break from watching sports on the tv. Head over to Amnesia at 853 Valencia in San Francisco to witness an exceptional set of local rock and roll.

I’ve been producing a lot of new material for the show. I’ll open maybe around 8:30, and then play like a dj in between sets by Micropixie, Whitey on the Moon, and Andalou. Video artist Kosho will be there, along with a small video crew and your normal assortment of semi-pro photographers.

I even took a break from the tv today to send out a promotional gift to all my wonderful online social networking friends; a free exclusive download of the freshest Delivery is Possible material (recorded and mixed last night!). Tentatively titled “Untitled_5″, the composition is lovingly dedicated to the manufacturers and distributors of AmbienCR (zolpidem tartrate extended-release) CIV.

Untitled_5 will be on the upcoming record, although it’s going to be bigger, bolder, and perhaps sleepier. It’s being re-arranged for quintet.

Of course the song is available here for a limited time. When it’s up you can find it over on the right with all the other links. When it’s not up that means you can’t find it there because the studio forced me to take it down before the Scandinavian pirates come around.

In case you do miss it, I apologize, my hands are tied. The best remedy for that situation is to contact Aquarius and Amoeba records (go ahead and call them both) in regards to the upcoming Delivery is Possible debut double triple LP retail $34.79 titled “macro-virus-executable”. The buyers at both of those stores are terrific so please be specific when you call. Accept no substitutes.

AND,

If you want to get more free music in the future, send me your email. I’ll see if we can work out some kind of deal between the website and the studio. The musicians will play for free, hell, they’re musicians.

New Acoustic Song: Cross Kisses

Not a major production. A quick live take with no editing and a small amount of mixing. It’s a sketch recording meaning maybe we’ll rearrange it later. I like this one as is so you might like it too.

There’s a clear picture in my mind of exactly where and how and why and when this song takes place. I can feel the cheap upholstery of the car, plastic buttons that fade the radio back, the leaves of a dirt sidestreet overgrown with elm trees…

This song will be available here until I take it down. You can’t get it in myspace or nowheres else so you’re at the right place at the right time [Ed: it's gone, you missed it]

Portland Shows

March 17th, 2008  |  Published in News, Shows

This Friday afternoon in Portland I’m playing a show at the Pacific Northwest College of Art.

It’s part of an multimedia installation that my friend Greg from Thousand Points of Light put together. Greg and I will be playing guitars, synths, loopers, samples… whatever kind of noise we can muster for the young stumptown scholars. The PNCA common room is a big room. We’ll bring a big sound. Show starts at 12:30.

Saturday evening we’re playing a private party in Portland. Contact me if you’re interested in getting on the list.

We’re putting out the word to folks in Portland to help us set up one or two shows for Sunday. More show info to come…

Not a Bad View

Adam and I finished some new material recently. You can hear the song “Not a Bad View from Hackley Hill” by visiting the new myspace page of our friend Empress Effects.

Go visit their page and check out our latest work.

Song features mandolin, recorder, and accordion among other sounds. Jamie from Whitey on the Moon sits in on the harmonium.

New Band Member, New Material

February 29th, 2008  |  Published in News

Big news is that Adam Webb-Orenstein (formerly of The Stevedores) has joined the band. We’ve been recording new material and having a good time of it. Adam’s playing cello, bass, keyboards, recorder, and whatever other instruments are around (as needed).

We dominate myspace. It’s sad for everyone else in myspace but on the bright side it’s nice for us. Tom Petty once sang “it’s good to be king”. Adam doesn’t like Tom Petty’s music that much but he loves being the king of myspace. Jeff likes being the king too, even if it’s delusional, nobody’ll notice the difference so let’s get on with it.

King Song #1: Code When You Call

The first time Adam and Jeff sat down to record they set immediately into a heretofore undiscussed, and unimaginably pleasant piece of music. Jeff pressed record. Then he pressed a note on an old Korg keyboard followed simultaneously by a button we call “hold”. From that moment forward the song was on and by the time we stopped recording it was finished. We took that song and listened to it.

Adam: “Do you like it?”

Jeff: “I do like it. It’s pleasant. Do you like it?”

Adam: “Yes, it’s very nice.”

Jeff: “Do you think it would be fun to re-record it?”

Adam: “That sounds fun.”

Jeff: “Let’s do that.”

Adam: “Ok.”

It’s too easy, friends, too easy. We’re rippin you off cuz we’re the god dang kings of myspace!

Go to myspace now and check out the latest Delivery is Possible club banger “Code When You Call”.

Change of Pace

December 13th, 2007  |  Published in News

Almost exactly the time I got this site up, I was invited to join a great band called Whitey on the Moon. That was October 2006.

Many years ago (’98) I performed on Whitey’s first release “Special New Band”. That was good fun. In 2004 I joined them in the studio to help mix their second release “Discolandia”.

It was an easy decision to put this Delivery is Possible project somewhat on hold and help the Whitey guys prepare material for a third record.

We released that record about a month ago. It’s called “One Less Car”. It’s received some positive reviews and I’m sure more will come. The Whitey dudes brought their best to the studio and it’s a fine collection of songs.

The “One Less Car” CD release show was awesome, a real high note for all of us I think. Following the show I decided to shift my attention back to the Delivery is Possible project.

Whitey has a show this Friday at the House of Shields in San Francisco.
