myspace is what it is

I think we all know what it is…

Despite all the flaws in the experience it still has 200MM users. And a few of the functions work well enough to mostly compensate for everything else.

I’ve updated the music pages to make songs easier to download. Sorry for any previous confusion.

Process Update

August 31st, 2007  |  Published in Other

Months ago I wrote a post about the things I was practicing in terms of composition. That’s an obsolete list. I don’t expect you to keep track. I just want to correct the record in the event someone hears more recent work and says “hey, you said…” For what it’s worth, these days I’m practicing different things than I was last April.

Try to See a Little Further

Noisy weekend around the house.

New song up called “They Love Each Other”.

Gorilla Amps

July 21st, 2007  |  Published in Music, News

My housemate brought home an amp built by a company called Gorilla. It’s small. Instead of the traditional “gain” knob, the gorilla has “growl”.

There’s a new song on the site called “So Super Dynamic”.

Clearer As We Go

There’s now more music available. Added a song and removed a song and that’s how it is. What’s more is better.

Thankful to be giving things the time and space they deserve.

What Next and How?

Day old ideas

April 3rd, 2007  |  Published in Recording

Here’s a run down of some things that I’m practicing:

  1. Select an idea.
  2. Choose a method to express that idea in music.
  3. Program the structure of the idea into electronic equipment (sometimes).
  4. Set up recording equipment as needed.
  5. Press record.
  6. Improvise.
  7. Overdub as little as possible.
  8. Edit and mix in computer.
  9. Master on laptop speakers.
  10. Publish anything that almost works.

This process should flow, freestyle. It should be fast and fun. At it’s best it seems to undermine preciousness. At it’s worst it’s draining and the results can be difficult to listen to.

New Song Online

The latest is in the sidebar and I call the piece Davis after a very young person who lives in Berkeley of that same name (Davis). It is a nice name.

No other news to add at this time. Thank you.

Neither Intentional Nor Coincidental

sculpted shapes

Here’s another picture taken in the Joan Miro Museum. It’s the inside of a sculpture that was created in homage to Miro. Regret not noting the artist’s name.

Other pictures below from the same museum.

The coincidence that I’m referring to in the post title is related to the music part of this project. The songs have a birth theme and it’s honestly not a premeditated notion. It’s not preconceived (ugh), it emerged (awful), I enjoy it, although I’m wary of belaboring the metaphor. At some point might have to sever.

Soon there’ll be another track written for another very recent new born. Another little girl. 3-1 girls if you’re keeping score. They’re all people that I care a lot about and that’s helped the songwriting along.

Delivery is Possible is still an open concept. The baby delivery part is a phase. I think. Time will tell.

You know, most singer songwriters are boring and self absorbed.
